Superboy relaunched along with the rest of DC’s “New 52″ with a revised origin, costume, cast of characters and all that. We’re now up to issue #3, and a character that’s shown up in each of the first two issues – called “Red” – has now emerged to be Caitlin Fairchild from the old Wildstorm comics.
In the original series, Fairchild was a skinny nerd girl who transformed into a sexpot amazon muscle girl, and then remained that way. In the new reality, she evidently has the ability to change back and forth. She’s been drawn very slender, but in the last panel of Superboy #3, she suddenly erupts from her clothes, a foot taller, busty and muscular, and more than strong enough to toss Superboy around like a doll.
For growth fetish fans it’s fairly glorious fan service, and naturally it gives us all a reason to buy the comic. Interestingly, another chesty redhead powerhouse named “Knockout” was a prominent character in the 90s Superboy comic, but she didn’t have the ability to transform back and forth. This could get interesting.
