I love these old time comic book ads. People forget that companies used to offer weight gain supplements and plans for women, to “put on healthy weight”. Typically there’d be a before and after type sequence, with the “before” girl looking painfully scrawny and flat-chested but her “after” ego showing as pleasantly busty and scarcely able to fight off all the new male attention.
This ad for “Wate-On” reads:
AT LAST! THE ALL-IN-ONE CONCENTRATED MEAL OF EASIER DIGESTED, BODY-BUILDING CALORIES YOU’VE LONG HEARD WAS COMING!
If you are skinny, thin and underweight mail this coupon for this latest discovery of modern medical science. It’s called WATE-ON and anyone in normal health may quickly gain 2, 4 as much as 5 pounds in a week … then 10 pounds, 20 pounds and more so fast it’s amazing! Poor Jean looks so scrawny and unhappy in the before photo, I’m glad she got her fella in the after pic!
